For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

In what sense I am I

As in Giorgione
the suspense
is eternal.

I Am Not I

By Juan Ramón Jiménez
Translated By Robert Bly

I am not I.
                   I am this one
walking beside me whom I do not see,
whom at times I manage to visit,
and whom at other times I forget;
who remains calm and silent while I talk,
and forgives, gently, when I hate,
who walks where I am not,
who will remain standing when I die.

I don't know why I love sonnets.
I can see one forming on a winter walk
The trees bowing in the evening light

But the beauty of Einstein's equations, for example, is just as real to anyone who's experienced it as the beauty of music. We've learned in the 20th century that the equations that work have inner harmony.

Artists create out of a sense of desolation : El Greco

Artists create out of a sense of desolation.
The spirit of creation is an excruciating, intricate exploration from within the soul.

A weightless word : Octavio Paz

       Una palabra de poco peso
       para saludar al día
una palabra de vuelo a vela
          Ah!
       A weightless word
       to greet the day
       a word for setting sail
         Ah!

       Octavio Paz

Thursday evening

Walking uphill
whirling circles
of windswept small, dry leaves
at my feet
